Madhu

Senior Process Development Engineer, Mammalian Manufacturing, Lonza Singapore

Madhu completed her PhD in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Centre in the USA. She then joined Lonza in Singapore as a Process Development Engineer. In 2019, Madhu was promoted into her current role, which involves providing technical support, monitoring and ensuring process consistency for cell culture stages of multiple customers’ manufacturing processes.

I chose Lonza because…
It’s a world-class organisation that partners with many pharmaceutical companies and I relished the opportunities that would offer.

Since I started at Lonza, my career has progressed…
… with the variety I had hoped for. When I joined as a Process Development Engineer, in 2016, I was a PhD graduate fresh out of academia. Since then, I’ve had opportunities to rotate and experience multiple positions within the team, developed a good understanding of the entire value and supply chain, grown professionally and been promoted to Senior Process Development Engineer.

It’s special to work at Lonza because…
For me, I feel privileged to be able to work with and partner world-renowned customers through the course of my work.

My work is meaningful because…
It has a positive impact around the world. I provide critical technical support and troubleshoot process-related issues during the production of a range of life-saving medicines that go on to be delivered and distributed to millions of patients worldwide.

What makes me feel good at the end of the working day is…
Every day I feel like I’m developing a greater depth of expertise, both in my technical knowledge of manufacturing processes and also in my ability to interact with our international customers. And that is helping me to accomplish new things all the time.

The most exciting thing about working at Lonza is…
Being part of one of the world’s top biologics manufacturing organisations! The facility I work in at Tuas is home to an impressive range of 20,000 Litre bioreactors and single-use bioreactors, and also a dedicated Cell & Gene Therapy facility.

What I most appreciate about my team is…
They’re a diverse group who are all hard-working, inspiring and willing to help each other. They’re a great team to work with and learn from.
