We are hiring a driven individual to join us as a Green Engineering Lead in Basel, Switzerland!
You will play a meaningful role in implementing Lonza’s Environmental and Sustainability Engineering Strategy.
The role is based in Basel, Switzerland. Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates and their families, if needed.
Key responsibilities:
1.Strategy and Innovation
Perform market watch and benchmark best practices and emerging technologies in environmental engineering.
Lead activities related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructures” and ensure appropriate reporting / targets alignment
Actively support activities related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 6 “Clean Water and sanitation” and 13 “Climate Action”
Translate innovative environmental technologies (e.g., renewable energy systems, carbon capture, water reclamation) and advanced know-how into Lonza’s operations and projects.
Foster innovation in sustainability by leveraging digital tools, AI, and data analytics for monitoring and optimization.
2. Standards and Tools Development
Develop and maintain global Sustainability Design Standards to ensure environmental considerations are integrated into all Growth projects and available for site operations / local projects
Build and be responsible for a Green Toolbox (minor adjustments, innovative subsets…) to support sites in reducing their carbon footprints and achieving sustainability goals.
Define and update a Green Technology Catalogue to provide a repository of best available technologies (BAT) for growth projects and operational improvements.
3. Work Streams and Projects
Be responsible for the integration of green engineering principles into growth projects, ensuring sustainable design from inception to execution.
4. Leadership and Digital Transformation
Act as a global leader for sustainability initiatives.
Champion digital transformation in sustainability through tools like smart metering, carbon tracking, and AI-driven environmental analytics.
Key requirements:
BSc or equivalent experience in Engineering or a related field
English proficient
Experience within the sustainability or green engineering field in a regulated and high technology environment (ideally Life Science)
Project management skills and familiarity with sustainability-related tools, methodologies, and frameworks (e.g., Life Cycle Assessment, Carbon Accounting, or ISO 14001).
Hands-on experience working with digital tools for environmental performance monitoring (e.g., energy management systems, carbon tracking software).
Confirmed hands-on experience in integrating green technologies or sustainability initiatives into engineering processes and projects in a multi-site or global environment.
Good knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 50001, or similar environmental standards and sustainability principles.
