We are looking for an R&D Advanced Chemistry Technologies Manager to lead a growing team of scientists and/or technicians in line with the project milestones and timelines and act as technical R&D lead in complex, strategic, innovation, or customer support projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Led a small team with a scientific background as part of the global R&D Advanced Synthesis Business Platform.

  • Helps identify and lead innovation in new technical areas.

  • Leads efforts to establish intellectual property in the area(s) of primary expertise.

  • Delivers projects on time, generating high-quality products and outcomes.

  • Plans and resources portfolio projects, in coordination with the Head of R&D Advanced Chemistry Technologies (ACT). Supervises deliverables’ execution within project team(s).

  • Takes responsibility for budget adherence and outcomes for projects, championed and assigned.

  • Collaborates with other local and global functional teams, internally, within Lonza.

  • Stewards third-party and research partner engagements, externally, as needed for project execution.

  • Fosters talent development and high colleague retention rates in the Nansha R&D ACT team.

  • Ensures laboratory instruments and equipment are in ready, working condition. Contributes to lumpsum and CapEx planning, to grow synthetic and analytical capabilities in the Nansha R&D ACT team.

  • Get relevant training according to GMP regulation

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • PhD (post doc optional) in Organic Chemistry and ideally expertise in Synthetic Organic Chemistry

  • Substantial relevant experience and demonstrated track record of successfully delivering projects or critical project components within relevant areas of expertise independently

  • Works in partnership as an active member of his/her team and cross-functional working groups. Actively seeks out and shares different perspectives from a broad network and implements alternative approaches.

  • People management skills and ability to create a positive work environment for his/her team and demonstrate high integrity

  • Supports others in taking responsibility for a safe and sustainable environment.

  • Strong communication skills in English and local language-internal and/or external stakeholders

  • Capable to develop more complex scientific concepts and application to practical problems/issues
