The role's purpose and scope are to Lead the SM data science and modeling strategy/ roadmap across the business platform to generate unique insights from data and develop new differentiated offerings using modeling tools. The incumbent will lead a team of expert data scientists/engineers, programmers and modeling experts (AI, mechanistic, statistical) deployed across multiple projects to enable the deployment of industry-leading data science and modeling capabilities.

What you’ll do:

  • Act as strategic lead for data science and modeling across the organization (R&D, MSAT, dev services, etc) and partner with relevant leads in other Business platforms.
  • Effectively manage resources and projects in line with prioritized business needs.
  • Support all business areas (chemistry, bio enhancement, oral drug product, drug delivery), functions  (R&D, operations, quality, etc) and sites.
  • Ensure advanced data science and modeling is a key enabler across our innovation pipeline and operations.
  • Partner with IT Hub and spoke with contacts to ensure aligned strategy and investment.
  • Ensure effective deployment of data ops/flows and visualization and modeling tools in operations, and services, through simplified workbenches, workflows, and apps as well as training.
  • Accelerate the adoption of AI/ML as well as statistical and mechanistic modeling in the organization including through partnerships / external collaborations.
  • Work closely with other SMEs (IT, Automation, analytical, etc) to ensure alignment of project and priorities.

What we’re looking for:

  • PhD in Science, an equivalent professional qualification or occupational experience​​ in Chemical engineering, statistics, chem-informatics/chemometrics.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience leading/managing projects, including technology projects, in a pharmaceutical /CDMO setting.
  • Solid experience delivering strong value (new offerings, acceleration, etc) through the development and deployment of modeling tools in a pharmaceutical /CDMO environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a complex matrix environment.
  • Proven track record /scientific expertise in the development and deployment of complex modeling tools, programming, electronic lab notebooks, apps,etc
  • Established collaboration network and  external recognition as SME in the field
  • Ability to operate at multiple levels from strategic planning to site operational deployment in line with broader R&D and BU objectives.
  • Support own and matrix team resource planning, project management activities and prioritization decisions. 
  • Strong communication skills and capacity to translate technical information into business insights for decision-making process.
