Lonza is seeking an experienced Bioassay Services Scientist to join the Houston Cell Therapy team.

POSITION:                 Scientist, Bioassay Services

JOB LOCATION:      14905 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77047

DUTIES: Lead the successful development and execution of state-of-the-art manufacturing processes for Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) within the Cell Therapy Development matrix with strong support from development manager. Interact with new or existing Cell Therapy clients to document and transfer new processes to Lonza sites and communicate and present the work in meetings. Contribute and support scientific or engineering expertise toward the design and development of new process ideas that support client product concepts. Understanding and hands-on experience with cellular, biochemical and/or molecular techniques; cell culture, nucleic acid extraction, real-time qPCR/RT-PCR, ddPCR, flow cytometry, microscopy, ELISA, spectrophotometric, fluorometric cell-based potency assays. Maintains accurate, detailed records, experimental data and protocols following Lonza’s best documentation practices. Support preparation of data summary and data reports. Work with Lead Scientists to summarize results for internal and client meetings, written reports and presentations. Design and execution of experiments, analyze and troubleshoot data. Support or lead discussions around scope of development work and resource planning. Establish relationships and serve as SME to cross-functional groups (MSAT, MF, QC, PM). Implementation of NPI principles and procedures, responsible for tech transfer to MSAT, provide ongoing support as needed. Provide support in analytical method optimization, qualification activities and transfer to QC. Perform common laboratory maintenance as needed. Maintain stock of lab supplies and reagents in support of ongoing programs. Mentor and train junior colleagues. Provide technical and scientific leadership to other team members; this includes providing assistance to management toward new or existing protocols.  Utilize analytical methods such as ELISA, cell-based infectious titer, plate based assays and other general cell-based assays. Utilize analytical methods and in process controls commonly used in manufacturing processes including molecular biology techniques. Employ scientific and technical writing ability. Utilize cGMP(Current Good Manufacturing Practice) principles and assay qualification principles. Employ analytical method validation principles and applications. Utilize basic laboratory equipment and aseptic technique. Create workable solutions to technical and schedule-related problems. Utilize computer skills spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Chemistry, Biology, or Biochemistry and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or three (3) years of experience in a related occupation utilizing analytical methods such as ELISA, cell-based infectious titer, plate based assays and other general cell-based assays; utilizing analytical methods and in process controls commonly used in manufacturing processes including molecular biology techniques; employing scientific and technical writing ability; utilizing cGMP(Current Good Manufacturing Practice) principles and assay qualification principles; employing analytical method validation principles and applications; utilizing basic laboratory equipment and aseptic technique; creating workable solutions to technical and schedule-related problems; and utilizing computer skills spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software.
