In the current growth environment, Lonza offers multiple career opportunities within the Small Molecules Business Division. In this opportunity, we are looking for a motivated and experienced professional, with a solid background in managing innovation projects in R&D pipelines. This role directly reports to the Head of R&D in the Small Molecules Business Division.
This role is responsible for the successful execution of Innovation projects within the SM R&D pipeline. This involves managing timelines, estimated cost, and desired business outcomes. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate technology readiness stage gates criteria with relevant area and value stream leads.
This is an onsite position based in Bend, Oregon. Lonza will provide relocation for the selected candidate.
Key responsibilities:
- Act as portfolio/project management lead for innovation projects within R&D
- Ensure structured plans/roadmaps are in place for all projects and ensure progress against plans regularly with relevant area and scientific/area leads.
- Own and enforce the innovation governance process with relevant stage gate criteria (Ideation, PoC, dev, Launch)
- Develop and implement project and portfolio management tools to establish standard methodologies for use in R&D portfolio governance
- Provide regular analysis of pipeline performance, including risk, return on investment, critical metrics, and resource deployment, etc. at the R&D quarterly review board.
Key requirements:
- Master or equivalent experience in Chemical engineering, chemistry, pharmacy, or analytical sciences
- Preferred candidates with a project management certification (PMP or equivalent)
- Minimum of 10 years of experience leading/managing projects, including technology projects, in a pharmaceutical /CDMO setting
- Solid experience managing a diverse portfolio of technology projects through the development and deployment of project management and governance tools in a pharmaceutical /CDMO environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in a matrix environment balancing the need for pipeline progression vs scientific excellence/differentiation
- Ability to operate at multiple levels from strategic portfolio management to detailed project/site activity planning
- Proven scientific expertise in at least two of the following areas (Chemistry, analytics, drug delivery, modelling, drug product, CMC) to adequately probe / challenge project plans.
