Blackley (UK), 31 October 2017 – At in-cosmetics Asia 2017, Lonza Consumer Care (Stand J40) will showcase its full range of traditional and alternative preservative chemistries and reflect its new strategy for positioning Lonza as a long-term, dependable and sustainable key supplier to the global preservation markets. In addition, Lonza will highlight its naturally derived Polyaldo® polyglyceryl esters. In-cosmetics Asia runs 31 October through 2 November 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand.

"The short-term approach," Hindley explained, "is to enable continued availability of the existing product range through advocacy, defense, collaboration and regulatory investment."
Currently Lonza offers a comprehensive range of preservation systems and a wide-ranging portfolio of single-active and blended preservatives that encompasses traditional and non-traditional chemistries. Lonza preservatives for personal care products enjoy wide global acceptance and are backed by innovative and market-focused R&D and by industry-leading regulatory and toxicology expertise.
“Working with Lonza, producers of cosmetics and personal care products know they will have continuous access to commercially available preservative chemistries,” Hindley said. “They will have a long-term partner who can react to and anticipate the changing needs within preservation.”
Develop – Optimize Blends
The medium-term approach focuses on market-focused, optimized blend development and on regulatory and toxicology expertise delivered through worldwide regional technical centers.
One example is the Geogard Ultra™ preservative. It is ECOCERT- and Soil Association-approved, COSMOS- and NATRUE-certified and Vegan-compliant. In addition, responding to the market demands of Southeast Asian countries such as Indonesia, Geogard Ultra™ preservative is also Halal-certified.
"The continued promotion of and developments around Geogard Ultra™ preservative illustrate Lonza's commitment to innovation," Hindley said. "The technology is multifunctional, offering formulators a complementary moisturization benefit in addition to broad-spectrum antimicrobial performance."
Lonza's full Geogard® product line offers wide formulation latitude and a range of pH tolerances. The Geogard® product line comprises single-active and blended preservatives that deliver broad-spectrum product protection and viable alternatives to traditional chemistries.
Innovate and Invest
Hindley also explained how the long-term approach focuses on investing in innovation through multifunctionals, potentiation of existing actives, development of true new actives and efficacy-testing automation.
“We're looking at multifunctionals as either standalone systems that offer a preservation effect in addition to a primary benefit or as potentiators that boost the activity of existing actives,” Hindley said. "Lonza has a program to synthesize and evaluate new active ingredients. Whatever happens regarding market and regulatory requirements, we will have a solution that is sustainable and as future-proof as possible.”
Polyaldo Esters: Versatile and Naturally Derived
The range of Lonza Polyaldo® polyglyceryl esters comprises versatile, naturally derived surfactants and emulsifiers customizable to suit formulation needs. They carry ECOCERT and COSMOS approval, and Soil Association and NATRUE certifications. Some Polyaldo® polyglyceryl esters also carry Halal-certifications.
Ideal for the Asian market, Polyaldo® 10-1-CC polyglyceryl ester (INCI name: Polyglyceryl-10 caprylate/caprate), offers excellent foam generation while maintaining mildness in baby shampoos, hand washes and facial cleaners. Polyaldo® 10-1-CC is manufactured from 100% plant-derived raw materials and is an excellent choice for PEG-free cleansing formulations.
